People I'd Like to Meet Before I (or They) Die
Journal Entry: Sun Jul 6, 2008, 8:05 AM
As in the case of most bouts of not-doing-anything-ness, I end up doing all the most random shit. This, for instance, is a list of people I'd like to meet before I die (or, in the more probable case, they die). Nothing unusual. Just people. In no particular order, they are...
NEIL GAIMAN
So I have met him. Once. Seen from a distance, at least thrice. It would be incredibly nice though, to have a real actual conversation with him. Ergo, list placement.
IVANKA TRUMP
Daughter of the Donald, also VP of Trump Real Estate shiznit, jewelry designer, TV personality and model. She can do whatever the hell she wants. That's in addition to being that rare and wonderful amalgamation of hot-ness and smart-ness. Ergo, list placement.
IMAN
Once a supermodel, now cosmetics queen and wife of David Bowie. Mostly I think she's cool because she's pushing mid-life yet remains physically immaculate. And that's without any surgery. Ergo, list placement.
JANICE DICKINSON
On the other end of the surgery meter. Janice, I want to meet just to see if she acts exactly like she does in her TV show. That, and because through all the shit she talks and that gets talked about her, she remains a genuinely interesting, genuinely fiery human being. Ergo, list placement.
OPRAH
As though my penchant for watching girly shows (think, Lifestyle Network) were not obvious enough. Well. Obviously. List placement.
CHRISTOPHER LEE
I read his autobiography (which was quite a long autobiography considering he's around 86 years old). I wanna meet him because he was Saruman, and Count Dooku and Dracula and the priest in Corpse Bride. Because when I listen to his 70s horror radio show on podcast, I'm genuinely creeped out. Because he's scary when he wants to be, and interesting all the way around. List-age .
SATOSHI KON
Because I suspect he's fucked up in the head, and would like to confirm this idea. Like Perfect Blue fucked up. That is, fucked up in a wonderful way. Ergo, list placement.
HAYAO MIYAZAKI
Because watching Spirited Away was like becoming 8 years old again (that part of being 8 years old where crossing the border into the magical world of spirits was far more likely). He's rather old, like Christopher Lee. I'll be sad if he dies without me smiling at him at least once. Ergo, list placement.
YOSHITAKA AMANO
After Dream Hunters (collaboration with Neil Gaiman), I decided Amano was an artist worth googling. After my boyfriend got me the Amano Collected Works and Tales of Genji, I have come to decide that I'd like to meet him at least once, and if not, see one of his pieces in actuality. List-age.
SHARON OSBOURNE
I wanna meet her just to say I've read her autobiography (the first one). I'm actually kind of scared of her (refer to aforementioned autobiography, regarding incidents involving human shit sent to enemies inside chocolate boxes). Also interested and awestruck. Also because if she's around, I'll assume Ozzy Osbourne isn't far off. List-ness.
JOHNNY DEPP
Who doesn't want to meet Johnny Depp. Ergo, list-ness.
THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THOSE COOL SPRAY-PAINTED THINGS ALONG KATIPUNAN, LIKE THE BIG PINK WORM THAT EXTENDS FROM THE ADMU WALKWAY TO UP.
They're a group, and they have a name, I just forget what. I thought the worm was awfully cool, the same with the gorilla things and those things that look like marshmallows fused together (or maggots with no eyes). They make the streets prettier than those MMDA geometric wall art things. Ergo, list placement.
(Digression - it just occurred to me how many people I'd like to meet o_O. Which has never occurred to me before).
ALAN MOORE
When we meet, I will not mention that I did enjoy some of the movie adaptations of his comic books (specifically V for Vendetta. Not LXG. The LXG movie was crappy). I'd ask for his opinion on Neil Gaiman. And hope to God the only resemblance he has to an abominable snowman is the beard (and not the chance he'd kill me with a whack from his great long arms). List-ness.
CLIVE BARKER
Just because it was through his works that I understood how a story can be visceral (at all levels, visceral ). Because he made it big as a horror writer. Because he believes in horror. I would also ask him his opinion of Neil Gaiman. List-placement-ness-ism.
ANTHONY KIEDIS
I just want to see Red Hot Chili Peppers actually. Even from a distance. At a concert. Or at a busy road. There's the chance I'll be screaming like a deranged child (a reaction that can be elicited from me by only one other personage. That being Neil Gaiman, doi). Given the chance to actually talk to Anthony though, I'd ask where the bridge in Under the Bridge is. I don't expect an answer. But given the probable extremely high state of fangirl-ish-ness I'll be in, it might be the only intelligent thing I can bring myself to ask. Ergo, blah.
AMY WINEHOUSE
I would like to sit up close to the stage when she sings (and see for myself that subtle skirt-fumbling, eye-rolling action). If not, with all conversation negligible, down a glass of wine in close proximity to her. I certainly hope she doesn't die of kidney disorder until this happens. List!
- Mood:
Artistic - Listening to: Love Hurts, Nirvana. Is a feel-good song. Sort of.
- Reading: Thinking of starting Ender's Game.
- Watching: Ateneo beat La Salle in the UAAP
- Playing: the I'm-in-a-strange-place game
- Eating: Kangkong and shrimp
- Drinking: Coke. The drink.

And they're not choosy when it comes to hiring employees, unlike some companies in the Philippines...
